Maxine Waters is considered by many to be “one of the most powerful women in American politics today.” In November 2014, Waters was elected to her 13th term in the U.S. House of Representatives with more than 70 percent of the vote in the 43rd Congressional District of California.

Waters is a strong advocate for women and people of color and has a reputation of being bold, opinionated and outspoken. She has been vocal about her discontent with President Donald Trump and his cabinet, particularly in a recent interview with MSNBC anchor, Chris Hayes.

In the interview, Waters questions Trump and his cabinet members’ ties with Russia, and, their allegiance to big oils companies. She also refers to them as a “bunch of scumbags.”

In this podcast, we explore Waters’ statements and discuss what she represents as an outspoken black woman in American politics today.
